| Axanthic
ball pythons are lacking yellow pigment. Normally colored
ball pythons have rich brown tones and dark black areas.
The brown areas in a ball python’s skin are created
by combinations of yellow pigments and other darker
pigments. In axanthic ball pythons, the yellow pigment
is not present so the areas that normally would be brown
are instead shades of gray. It almost looks like a black
and white photo of a ball python.
I
am currently working with the Barker strain of axanthic
ball pythons. This line of axanthic produces great ball
pythons that are only shades of silver, gray, white,
and black. This mutation will provide ball python enthusiasts
with years of morph combinations. Axanthics can be bred
into other morphs in an effort to "wipe out the
yellow". |
